We are working with a partner to relieve humanitarian needs in Northwest Myanmar, while also helping vulnerable families build resilience and increase their income.
People from vulnerable households (female headed households, those with chronic illness or disability) are provided with a cash grant to enable them to purchase items they need the most. Cash grants enable choice for how funds are used - most recipients use their grants for food, medical care and education costs and greatly appreciate the flexibility this brings.
Since starting this work, we have now trained over 60 young women in tailoring. We have opened two production centres where the trainees can practice their skills, gain experience, and save towards buying their own sewing machine.
We are hoping to continue this project, supporting the graduates to establish their own small business and providing other small scale income generating activities for vulnerable households.
