Sustainable Livelihoods

Given the on-going man-made and natural disasters, we are working with local communities to increase their disaster resilience and strengthen livelihood capabilities. We are working in 30 communities with over 870 people actively participating. With 50% of the country living below the national poverty line, there is an urgent need to increase income generation at the household level. Focusing on sustainable livelihood development is therefore a strategic priority.

At the moment, our focus is to empower farmers to practice climate-smart agriculture and support women in non-agricultural income generation such as sewing and tailoring.

In addition, we are supporting community led ‘Disaster Risk Management Committees’ to implement disaster risk management activities. These aim to increase knowledge of the community on climate change, disasters, explosive ordnance risks, and their impacts, thereby reducing exposure to these risks.

We are also building the capacity of 100 farmers in climate-smart agriculture by providing comprehensive farming training. The selected farmers will share their acquired knowledge with fellow farmers in their own communities.

Additionally, women will be empowered through specialised training programmes, including women empowerment workshops, tailoring for income generation, and other business-related training.

“We are incredibly grateful to our donor for reaching out and remembering us during this desperate and dark time, providing us with new hope and opportunities to thrive and stand again. We are deeply thankful for this project. Words cannot express our gratitude. To all our supporters, may God grant you abundant blessings.”
